UNESCO IITE took part in the National Workshop “Expanding ICT in Education and OER for Lifelong Learning” held on 22-23 October, 2018 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan with financial support of the WeiDong Group. The workshop was organized back to back with the Central Asian Symposium on ICT in Education held by Bangkok and Almaty UNESCO offices.
A core task of this workshop was to contribute towards strengthening ICT in Education and OER in the country. To facilitate this environment, it is necessary to share national experiences, scrutinize existing frameworks, compare them with the advanced international practices and recommendations, identify existing gaps, and agree on next steps to enhance ICT in Education and OER in Tajikistan.
Main objectives of the workshop were as follows:
- Train the policy makers on the essential knowledge on ICT in Education and OER and its implications for Education 2030.
- Present existing ICT in Education and OER experiences and activities implemented in Tajikistan and lessons learned from other countries with a view to facilitate policy dialogue in the field of ICT in education.
- Enhance the capacity of the participating policy makers in planning the sector-wide strategies and activities needed to adopt ICT in education and OER.
- Identify the strategic priority areas for leveraging ICT to achieve SDG 4 and plan the implementation, aligned with national education agenda, plan and strategies of Tajikistan.
The workshop was attended by members of the National Committee on OER, decision makers from the department of the MoES that is responsible for the policy planning, decision makers from all concerned departments for general education, higher education, curriculum, teacher education, TVET and/skills development, educational technology or ICT in education, EMIS and finance, if not included in the national committee, MoES officials from the departments that are in charge of digital content development, directors or experts from key national and international institutions, representatives from non-governmental educational institutions involved in lifelong learning and out of school education and representatives from other relevant ministries (such as ICT, Telecom, etc.).
Within the workshop Svetlana Knyazeva, Head of the Unit of Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials, delivered a presentation on OER potential in the countries surveyed by the UNESCO IITE and moderated two sessions “Regional and national practices on ICT in Education and OER” and “Identify and determine the strategic priorities and main activities to leverage ICT for SDG 4 in Tajikistan”.
