The European Young Heritage Professionals Forum is taking place in Zadar, Croatia, from 20 to 24 May 2019. Hosted by the Croatian Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Forum is organized in the framework of the UNESCO-EU joint project 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage: Engaging Youth for an Inclusive and Sustainable Europe.
The Forum will bring together 28 talented young heritage professionals to explore their heritage and how they can contribute to its safeguarding in Europe. In an innovative format, which addresses both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the Forum participants will learn how to develop safeguarding plans, involve local communities in heritage safeguarding and design visibility campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of heritage.
Project laboratories based on peer-to-peer learning, interactive games, site visits and hands-on activities with bearers will create a dynamic learning environment. Some of the project ideas proposed by the participants include developing socially responsive design through living heritage, empowering children from underprivileged schools through living heritage practices and creating a network of young ICH professionals. As young ‘Cultural Heritage Messengers’, they will spread the word about heritage in their own countries and communities to make heritage a driving force for positive change.
The Forum was developed in close cooperation with the NGO Diadrasis and is part of the World Heritage Education Programme.
