Transversal Teams and Agile Methodology

Transformation Newsflashes

Changing management culture at UNESCO requires the breaking down of existing silos, and create and nurture transversal teams. To do so, UNESCO intends to deliver interdisciplinary programmes more efficiently, using Agile as a supporting methodology.

By developing processes and approaches to facilitate transversal teams, the Organization will encourage improved efficient programme delivery, inter- and intra-sectoral collaboration, communication and trust, delegated problem-solving, greater team autonomy, and enhanced creativity and innovation.

The transversal teams will be sector-led initiatives with active support from Human Resources Managements and the Support Unit for the Strategic transformation.

The Education Sector will lead with the establishment of the first pilot transversal teams using the Agile approach as a working tool, and drawing expertise from different implementation units to fast track deliverables in three areas of high priority:

  • Girls’ and Women’s Education
  • Education for Migrants, Refugees and Internally-displaced Persons
  • Futures of Education Report
