When it comes to your health, laws and policies could be the difference between you being able to see a doctor on your own, getting the treatment you need, or even being able to get commodities such as contraceptives.
This toolkit developed by SAfAIDS, with technical and financial support from UNESCO, provides practical information and advice to community members on how to support children and young people to access comprehensive sexuality, HIV and AIDS information and services - to promote improved access to comprehensive sexuality education amongst young people and better support their health outcomes.
In early 2014, UNESCO launched a national project, “Strengthening comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) Programmes for Young People in School Settings in Zambia,” funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The project aims to strengthen the delivery of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) targeting young people (including young people living with HIV (YPLHIV) and young people with disabilities) age 10 to 24 in Zambia through increasing access to high quality and age appropriate sexuality education and services. Ultimately, the project aims to contribute to better sexual and reproductive health outcomes for Zambian adolescents and young people.
The current outbreak of the Ebola virus disease has had a devastating effect on communities in West Africa. Its impact has affected every part of society, impeding the delivery of basic services, such as health and education. UNESCO’s response to Ebola is to strengthen the capacity of governments to recover from the outbreak and prevent future public health emergencies.
UNAIDS and civil society partners, in collaboration with the organizers of the 21st International AIDS Conference, jointly announce a global call for nominations for the 2016 Red Ribbon Award. You are invited to join UNESCO in marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women. Education is the theme of this year’s campaign and UNESCO is proud to be participating in raising awareness of school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV), including violence against women.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign is taking place from 25 November to 10 December with the theme of “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.” School-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) can be a serious barrier in realizing the right to education. It is estimated that 246 million girls and boys are harassed and abused in and around school every year.
