Details

The IBE-UNESCO was represented by Director Dr. Mmantsetsa Marope at Web Summit 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal (4-7 November). The event is considered to be the largest technology conference on the planet. Bringing together under one roof CEOs and founders of the world’s biggest companies, heads of international organisations, the most promising new startups, influential investors and leading journalists.

Dr. Marope was a keynote speaker and also engaged in several roundtables on issues such as future learning, emerging technologies and gender equality. In particular, Dr. Marope participated in a panel with Mariéme Jamme, Divya Gokulnath and Zuzanna Ziomecka to discuss the nuances of gender equality in tech. With women still under-represented in STEM, promoting gender balance in tech has never been more important. Has the urgency waned and how do we continue the drive for diversity?
