In the context of education for all, technical and vocational training represents an essential poverty eradication tool. Today, countries must tackle the challenge of preparing their young men and women to confront the swift technological, economic and labour-related changes their societies are experiencing.
UNESCO has made a commitment to help its Member States accomplish this objective by suggesting standards that, in addition to general education, take into account every aspect of the educational process including technologies and related sciences, the development of attitudes and understanding, and the acquisition of practical and theoretical knowledge about occupations in the various economic and social sectors.
OREALC/UNESCO Santiago supports the countries of the region by reviewing and enhancing their curricular policies and proposals from a sustainable development perspective, promoting transversal topics such as enterprise education, implementing initiatives that help inform policy and foster capacity building, promoting and strengthening regional dialogue, and research and knowledge production efforts.
