World TVET Database

What is the role of TVET within a country’s education system? Is there a national policy or strategy for TVET in place? What qualifications do TVET teachers need to teach a profession?

You can find answers to these questions and many more in the World TVET Database.

The World Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Database is an online repository developed by UNESCO-UNEVOC. It aims to provide concise, reliable and up-to-date information on TVET systems worldwide in one single place. It helps TVET officials, experts and stakeholders, but also researchers and students of TVET to learn about trends and challenges. We also hope that it will allow the identification of information gaps and stimulate comparative studies of TVET systems.

The database consists of a set of country profiles, containing key descriptive information about the TVET system of a specific country. Information is structured in the following way:

  • TVET mission, legislation and national policy or strategy;
  • structure of the TVET system: formal, non-formal and informal TVET systems;
  • governance and financing;
  • TVET teachers and trainers;
  • qualifications and qualification frameworks; and
  • current and ongoing reforms, projects and challenges.
In addition, country profiles feature statistical information, links to TVET national institutions and UNEVOC Centres in each country and a list of further references providing further information on each country.

Country profiles are compiled from a variety of national and international sources and have been informed and validated by UNEVOC Centres in the country or other TVET national authorities.

The information in the database will be updated on an ongoing basis. New country profiles are continually drafted and will be published once they have been validated.

UNESCO-UNEVOC would like to acknowledge the help received from colleagues in UNEVOC Centres and other partner organizations in collecting and validating the information published and in providing feedback on the design and development of this tool. We look forward to receiving your comments and feedback both on the content and structure of the database – please email us at unevoc.tvetprofiles(at)unesco.org
