Promising Practices in TVET

UNESCO, together with other international organizations, has an important role to play in identifying and disseminating the knowledge and evidence necessary to formulate and implement relevant and effective TVET policies.

Following requests by Member States, UNESCO-UNEVOC has initiated efforts to identify and gather evidence of promising TVET practices for global dialogue and use. This database presents a set of initiatives from around the world that have been identified and selected by a team of experts as being particularly ‘promising’ for TVET in their context.

1 July 2017 Ammachi Labs AMMACHI Labs offers a programme that uses innovative approaches and modern technology to overcome the obstacles rural women face in terms of access to TVET. (more)

1 June 2017 SSACI’s workplace based experience Recognizing the need for better quality TVET courses that are more relevant and more effective in enabling youth to find employment, SSACI established a workplace-based experience programme in 50 public TVET colleges in South Africa. (more)

1 March 2017 Fundación Paraguaya’s Self-Sufficient Schools Under Fundación Paraguaya's the Self-Sufficient Schools model, students learn the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become entrepreneurs and they also apply what they learn in a real-life context.The incomes generated in this way go towards school operating costs, thus enabling the schools to become self-sustaining. 31 January 2017 Laboratoria, code that transforms In Peru, a web development company became aware of the lack of female software developers in the country and decided to set up a six-month training course for disadvantaged women. Graduates find employment and see their income sensibly improving. (more)

31 January 2017 Young Africa In Mozambique, youth unemployment is high and education programmes are often dependent on international aid. The umbrella organisation Young Africa sets up self-sustaining centres that efficiently prepare students to self-employment. (more)

31 January 2017 REACH In Vietnam, a local NGO brings disadvantaged young people to employment by training them and connecting them to a Network of over a thousand companies. To ensure a low drop-out rate, REACH counsels and actively supports the trainees throughout. (more)

31 January 2017 The Australian Apprenticeships Ambassadors Program In Australia, the government launched an Ambassadors programme to raise the status of apprenticeships. Prominent figures and high performing apprentices are mobilized to showcase the system and an online platform increases the programme’s outreach. (more)
