The award ceremony of the 16th Edition of the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, on 13 June 2019 (5.30 pm, Room I).

The Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Xing Qu, will award the 16th edition of the UNESCO Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture to Samandal (Lebanon), an association of comics and the Shubbak festival of contemporary Arab culture(United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

The award ceremony will be followed by a concert by Emel Mathlouthi, Tunisian singer, songwriter and composer who mixes electronic sounds and traditional instruments..

Created in 1998 at the initiative of the United Arab Emirates, the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture rewards each year, two individuals organizations, one from the Arab world and the other from a non-Arab country, who have made a significant contribution towards the development, dissemination and promotion of Arab culture in the world. The Prize carries a monetary value of $60,000, equally divided between the two laureates.
