Biosphere and Heritage of Lake Chad project (BIOPALT) & Launch of the documentary on Spirulina
The first results of the BIOPALT project will be presented. This information meeting will be the occasion to premiere the documentary film "Spirulina, a Traditional Science", produced in the framework of UNESCO’s action to promote green economies in the Lake Chad region.
It is co-organised with the Africa Group
BIOPALT is a flagship project of UNESCO that mobilizes its expertise in the fields of natural sciences, culture, education and social sciences.
It helps to address the root causes of the ecological challenges that fuel security and humanitarian crises in five countries in the Lake Chad Basin (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Niger, Nigeria and Chad).
This first year's activities were dedicated to:
- the studies required for the establishment of an early warning system for droughts and floods,
- developing green economy and income-generating activities
- developing application files for the creation of biosphere reserves in the basin and nomination files for the designation of Lake Chad as a World Heritage site.
