In November 2017, the UNESCO Institute for Information Technology in Education (IITE) in cooperation with its partners organized scientific seminars in Moscow and St. Petersburg, dedicated to the use of ICT for the development, education and social rehabilitation of people with special educational needs.
The seminar in St. Petersburg was organized in collaboration with the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and took place on 21-22 November. The seminar in Moscow was held on 23-24 November in partnership with the ITU and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
Participants of the seminars –managers, methodologists and teachers from educational institutions, heard reports of leading experts from the UK and Russia and considered the issues of providing accessibility of education and information environment to learners with disabilities –communication and speech, motor, and visual impairments. Substantive attention was drawn to modern assistive technology and communication opportunities based on their use, presented by Paul Thompson, a British expert from the AbleNet. Svetlana Vasiliieva and Maya Antoshina, experts from the “Elite Group”, briefed the participants on the use of specialized equipment in education for learners with visual impairments. During the seminar in Moscow, Alexei Bazarov, a programmer from the Training and Production Laboratory of Hard and Software Learning for Blind and Partially Sighted Students from the Faculty of Information Technology at Moscow City University of Psychology and Education, presented a pattern of specialized education conditions for students with visual impairments.
At the seminars, there were shown Modern Russian and foreign equipment and software.
More than 111 people benefited from training seminars.
The seminars in Moscow and St. Petersburg, broadcasted live on the IITE’s YouTube channel, were watched by 60 people.
