Technicians per thousand labour force

Definition

Number of persons whose main tasks require technical knowledge and experience in one or more fields of engineering, the physical and life sciences, or the social sciences, humanities and the arts (who participate in R&D by performing scientific and technical tasks involving the application of concepts, operational methods and the use of research equipment, normally under the supervision of researchers) during a given year expressed as a proportion of a labour force of 1,000 people.

Calculation method

Number of technicians during a given year divided by the total labour force and multiplied by 1,000.
