[Translate to espanol:] New report shows cultural and creative industries account for 29.5 million jobs worldwide

[Translate to espanol:] UNESCO, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and EY (formerly Ernst & Young) will launch a new report on cultural and creative industries (CCI), “Cultural Times – the First Global Map of Cultural and Creative Industries” on 3 December.

[Translate to espanol:] UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Jean-Michel Jarre, President of CISAC and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, will present the report in a press conference on 3 December at 11 am, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (Room III).

According to the report, CCI generate US$2,250 billion a year, i.e. 3% of world GDP, and employ 29.5 million people (1% of the world’s active population). CCI revenues exceed those of telecom services and employ more people than the car industry of Europe, Japan and the USA combined (29.5 million jobs vs. 25 million).

The study enhances UNESCO’s global work for “more data and stronger indicators on the role of Culture for the development of societies” and reflects the diversity that UNESCO’s 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions stands for.

This comprehensive report analyses 11 CCI sectors* in Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
