  • Ara Abramian and Zurab Tsereteli participate in the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the End of World War II

    09-05-2005 3:35 pm On 9 May 2005, the Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura, alongside some 50 Heads of State and Government and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, participated in Moscow in the 6Oth anniversary celebrations of the Allies’ victory over Nazi Germany.Abramian_Tsereteli.jpg

    The festivities started with a military parade in Red Square, followed by a joint wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a reception in the Kremlin. In the afternoon, Mr Matsuura attended, together with Presidents Putin and Chirac, an inauguration ceremony of the monument to General Charles de Gaulle designed by Zourab Tsereteli, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.

    The festivities gave the Director-General an opportunity to have talks with a number of Heads of State and Government, including President Chirac of France, President Jintao of China, President Katzav of Israel, Prime Minister Socrates of Portugal, Prime Minister Koizumi of Japan, as well as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Zourab Tsereteli and Ara Abramyan of the Russian Federation.
