Beneficiaries of YouthMobile create new Apps to change lives

Under the YouthMobile project, UNESCO Abuja is collaborating with the Federal Capital Territory Administration to empower 1000 youths to develop mobile applications for sustainable development and job creation. Within the framework of the UNESCO-FCTA YouthMobile project, UNESCO has empowered over 800 beneficiaries on software and hardware networking skills and entrepreneurial skills since the project started in 2017.

Over 20 percent of the beneficiaries on mobile apps development has developed physical apps that have the potential to solve local problems of various sectors of the economy and social life. Some of these applications are registered on the Android Play Store.

The training has equally created job opportunities for a reasonable percentage of the beneficiaries. UNESCO Abuja within the period has engaged over 20 beneficiaries to serve as facilitators during the 2018 and 2019 Africa Code Week, to bridge the digital skills and gender gaps among students and teachers on coding skills.

In October 2018, four benefactors project were supported by UNESCO to participate in the YouthConnekt International Conference competition on mobile application development, which took place in Kigali, Rwanda.

Other beneficiaries of the project have gained knowledge on computer repairs and hardware.
