Interactive panel on "Women and football: #ChangeTheGame"

On the occasion of the 2019 Women's World Cup to be held in France from 7 June to 7 July, UNESCO is organizing an interactive panel on "Women and Football: #ChangeTheGame" on Tuesday 4 June 2019, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the presence of the Director-General, Ms Audrey Azoulay, to promote women's sport.

The event will host professional footballers such as Nadia Nadim (Denmark), an Afghan refugee with an exceptional sporting background, and Jody Brown (Jamaica), the 17 years old and rising star on the international football scene, accompanied by her Jamaican team the “Reggae Girlz”. They will reflect on the importance of sport in promoting diversity, inclusion and gender equality.

Also participating in the discussion will be Houriya Al Tahir (United Arab Emirates), the first professional football coach in the Gulf and head coach of the United Arab Emirates national team, and Evelyn Laruni (Uganda), country coordinator of the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative in Uganda and supervisor of the “Peace through Sports” programme.

This panel will provide an opportunity to address the themes of gender equality, empowerment and protection, and social inclusion of girls and women both in and through football, while highlighting the exceptional achievements of the panelists.

The debate will include various activities with the "Reggae Girlz", and a Q&A session at the end of the debate which will be open to the public.
