Extrabudgetary Projects on Freedom of Expression - Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID)

Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID)

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is the central organisation that manages Spanish Cooperation, dedicated to the fight against poverty and to sustainable human development. The AECID is attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The Agency frames its goals within its main priorities: fostering development and equilibrium in international relationships, preventing and responding to emergencies, promoting democracy and creating relationships with partner countries.

UNESCO is leading innovative projects around the world thanks to voluntary contributions it has received from donors in support of freedom of expression.

Financed by the Kingdom of Spain, this project assisted the democratic transition in Tunisia through support to the reform of Tunisian national radio and television into public service media, independence, ethical practices and gender equality.

Voluntary contributions have strengthened UNESCO’s work in freedom of expression in dozens of countries around the world.
