On 14 November 2008, the Director-General of UNESCO designated H.E. Mrs Chantal Biya, First Lady of Cameroon, as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion. 

The designation ceremony took place at UNESCO Headquarters in the presence of the Cameroonian Minister for Basic Education, the French Foreign Minister’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, and several other dignitaries.
