IP

Event at UN Headquarters – 9 August 2016

The observance of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples at UN Headquarters took place on Tuesday 9 August, in the ECOSOC Chamber, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event was webcast live on webtv.un.org: Watch here>>>

Theme: “Indigenous Peoples’ Right to Education”

This year’s theme drew attention to the issue of indigenous peoples and education. Indigenous peoples continue to face challenges in accessing their right to education, in particular their right to education in a manner appropriate to their cultural methods of teaching and learning and with full recognition of the diversity of their cultures. Highlights from the forthcoming publication “State of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Volume III” on this topic of indigenous peoples and education was discussed at a special event at the UN Headquarters event in observance of the International Day.
