Didn't the news report after the game say something like "Kenny Sansom was doing impressions on the coach to the game. Pity he couldn't do one of an England left-back during it?"

Nick one of the reasons was England were in the group of death. it was the first tournament of its kind where every team was capable of beating anyone else. Holland won, but were beaten by Russia, who were held by Ireland who beat England. The other side of the draw 1/2

Italy, WG, Spain and Denmark were largely a weaker group which didn't make the same impression on the tournament. Just as an aside England had 22 shots to 2 v Ireland that day.
