I think I remembe watching this. It had several players saying watching the ball was key. Then showed numerous pictures of people hitting the ball with their eyes closed

I remember that programme. I'm sure it also had Alan Lamb playing hook shots with his eyes closed when hitting the ball! Just to make it harder than it already is!
