When Hitler invaded Poland, he did so knowing that Britain and France had promised to protect Poland from attack. #OTD in 1939, they made good on their promise, declaring war on Germany. For the second time in the 20th century, Europe was at war.

Julian Noga, a Catholic Pole deported to Austria for labor after Germany’s invasion, fell in love with the landowner's daughter. The relationship was forbidden by Nazi law, so they met secretly until sent to separate camps. After the war, they married. encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/id-…
