In 2016, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages (IYIL), based on a recommendation by the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. UNESCO was designated as the lead agency for the implementation of the International Year, and has worked closely with governments, indigenous peoples’ organizations, researchers and other partners to achieve the objectives set out in the Action Plan (https://en.iyil2019.org/wp-content/up...) of the International Year.
