Lagkadikia open accommodation site, which is currently under construction, is set up one kilometre south of Lagkadikia village in northern Greece. The Greek authorities with the support of the UNHCR manage and operate the site. At this early stage, accommodation is provided in the form of UNHCR tents, each meant for a family of 6 persons – but there are plans for container accommodation later when the site will eventually host up to 1,400 people.

Like thousands of other women who were forced to make the dangerous journey into Europe on their own, Nisrine Shiko, a 34-year-old Syrian refugee, travelled with her five children, after her husband was killed by a bomb in Aleppo three years ago.
