Meeting of the Bureau of the sixth session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport

The fourth meeting of the Bureau of the sixth session of the Conference of Parties (COP6) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport will be held in Bucharest, Romania, from 17 to 18 June 2019.

The meeting will focus on the preparations for the seventh session of the Conference of Parties (COP7) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, from 29 to 31 October 2019.

The agenda of the fourth Bureau meeting will include key items related to the governance of the Convention, compliance monitoring, the implementation of the 2017 Convention evaluation recommendations, the development of Operational Guidelines and a Framework of consequences for non-compliance with the Convention, the elaboration of a model legislative framework, visibility and resource mobilization, as well as a strategy of the Anti-Doping Fund beyond 2019. The proposals endorsed by the Bureau will be submitted to COP7 for approval.

All States Parties to the Convention and UNESCO Member States are invited to participate in this statutory conference held every two years.

The COP7 will gather high-level representatives of public authorities, in particular Ministers of Sport, as well as the sport movement. The first day of the event will be a Forum dedicated to contemporary themes including artificial intelligence and gene doping, values-based education and women and youth engagement. In addition, the Forum foresees open exchanges between UNESCO, Permanent Delegations and National and Regional Anti-Doping Organizations. The second and third days will focus on proposals related to governance reforms, the adoption of new tools and instruments, and the definition of new strategies.

COP7 will also elect a new Bureau (composed of a Chairperson, four Vice-Chairpersons and a Rapporteur), as required by Rule 4 of its Rules of Procedure.
