43 international experts join UNESCO’s Expert Facility for the implementation of the 2005 Convention

Following the call for expression of interest for the expansion of an Expert Facility (2011-2015), 43 international experts have been selected to support capacity development initiatives for the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions,

The purpose of this open call was to renew and diversify the Facility established in 2011 in the context of a European Union funded project aimed at “Strengthening the System of Governance for Culture in Developing Countries” in developing countries, both in terms of expertise and geographical representation.  Specialization in one of the following emerging fields of expertise has been given priority attention: cultural statistics and indicators; trade; digitization; media diversity; status of the artist and freedom of artistic expression; preferential treatment and mobility.

This renewed Expert Facility is established for the 2015-2017 period. The activities foreseen during this period, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), aim at raising awareness of the Convention, monitoring policies and measures to promote the diversity of cultural expressions at the international level and providing support to Parties in their efforts to engage in evidence based, transparent and participatory policy making at the country level.

In order to bring the members to a common knowledge of understanding of the overall capacity-building strategy, projects, tools and methodology regarding the 2005 Convention, UNESCO will convene a 2-day practical training-exchange session from 18 to 19 May 2015 in Casablanca, Morocco.
