We all stand to benefit from greater diversity in science - diversity in research expands the pool of talented researchers, bringing in fresh perspectives, talent and creativity. Yet each step up the ladder of the scientific research system sees a drop in female participation until, at the highest echelons of scientific research and decision-making, there are very few women left.
This International Day of Women and Girls in Science is an occasion to call for deep and sustained change. It is an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, to show how science is benefiting from diversity and that women are pushing the boundaries of science, technology and innovation.
On this day, #WomenInScience are invited to speak up, to explain why they #ChooseScience, to help girls believe in themselves as scientists, explorers, innovators, engineers and inventors.
This Day is an opportunity for women and girls to share their motivations to rise to the challenge and #ChooseScience, to share their dreams and aspirations.

Did you know?
Science and technical knowledge are necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, 2.5 million new engineers will be needed to improve access to safe water and sanitation, while 7 million new jobs will be created in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in Europe by 2025. To fill this need, both girls and boys need to have equal access to science.
