Cultural Expressions and Creative Industries
The UNESCO Ramallah Office addressed the Diversity of Cultural Expressions mainly through the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund, notably through the joint programme Culture and Development in the occupied Palestinian territory. UNESCO, UNDP, UNIFEM, and FAO joined their efforts with the Palestinian Authority ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Culture, Agriculture and Women’s Affairs to foster policies and practices for safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, develop best practices to promote social cohesion and utilize the potential of cultural heritage and creative industries for inclusive economic growth. Examples of successful joint work are the partnerships with the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music for the establishment of the first music-teaching programme in Hebron and with Al-Housh, a cultural networking and e-commerce portal to contemporary art and design from the Arab world; and three arts and crafts training courses for young designers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
