OAS Secretary General Condemns Antisemitic Attack in Rosario, Argentina

  June 11, 2019

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, today condemned the attack against Rabbi Shlomo Tawil in Rosario, Argentina.

The Secretary General denounced the attack and expressed his solidarity with Tawil and his family. "From the OAS we strongly condemn antisemitism in any form," said Almagro.

Last week, the Secretary General officially adopted the definition of antisemitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), as " certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."

Since its adoption, this definition will be used as the official definition of the OAS and will be applied where relevant in the work of the General Secretariat.
