UNESCO is conducting a training course in the application of the Object-ID* standard, and the technical aspects of establishing preliminary inventories. The workshop will take place in the UNESCO Amman Office and will be attended by Iraqi cultural specialists. This project is part of the Programme for the Protection of the Iraqi Cultural Heritage approved under the UNDG (United Nations Development Group) Trust Fund Facility for Iraq.

* In 1997 the J. Paul Getty Trust launched the Object-ID which is a minimum standard of identification of cultural objects used world-wide: it consists of 9 descriptive categories and a photograph so that in the event of an object being stolen, the identification data can immediately be transmitted to police, customs, museum officials and so forth and, if the object is located, it can be positively identified by the original owner.
