Conserving the wetlands which breathes life into the city of Colombo. Under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Small Grants Programme, which is in its sixth operational phase attempts are now being made to protect these significant yet fragile ecosystems
They call it the Dry Zone. A huge area of Sri Lanka that lies towards the north of the island, where there is a real shortage of water for agriculture and drinking. In the last decade, as a result of climate change, Sri Lanka has been experiencing severe shifts in its seasonal rainfall patterns, accompanied by increased floods and droughts.
Ms. Jamunadevi Ponnampalam, the Secretary to the Pungudutivu Food Manufacturers Society and the President of the Jaffna Palmyrah Handicrafts Guarantee Ltd was awarded the ‘Sri Lanka Thilaka’ award at the recent National Honors 2019.
UNDP and Citi Foundation, through its flagship entrepreneurship initiative – Youth Co:Lab Technopreneurship for Social Change Programme – recently conducted a programme for persons with disabilities at The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon. Youth Co-Lab, co-created in 2017 by UNDP and the Citi Foundation, aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
