2018 Summer School of the UNESCO chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites
From August 20th - 30th, the 2018 Summer School of the UNESCO chair in ICT (Information Communication Technology) to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites, established at USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland) is realized in collaboration with University of Turku, in Finland.
The summer program is co-design by the University of Turku and the ICT chair, which will provide the Summer School with an immersive learning experience. Conferences and lectures by international scholars will be combined with visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Fortress of Suomenlinna, Verla Groundwood and Board Mill, Petäjävesi Old Church, Old Rauma, and Bronze Age Burial Site of Sammallahdenmäki), Biosphere Reserves (North Karelia and Archipelago Sea area), and workshops involving local and national tourism stakeholders.
The learning environment includes the road itself: a special bus (picture shown below) will move the group of participants to the different sites located in Southern Finland, where the co-design workshops will take place.
Those who cannot participate in person can apply for the “Virtual Summer School“. The resources and presentation videos will be accessible remotely. The Virtual Summer School will be active during the two weeks of Summer School. Content from the school will be archived for future access and usage.
