POST EARTHQUAKE: We are currently in the reconstruction phase of April 2016 earthquake. A gradual closing of 30 shelters begun in January 2017 and in May, all closed down. Most of the activities developed by the international cooperation are in the area of livelihood recovery. Health and Protection actions have addressed the consequences of ZIKA, sensitizing and GBV training.

FLOODS: From January through May of this year, the floods affected significantly nine provinces along the coast, highlands and Amazonia. The province of Manabí was the most damaged, resulting 159,000 people affected, 41 deaths and large productive areas lost. UNFPA-Ecuador has continued working on strengthening the capacity of MOH staff in sexual and reproductive health issues, especially in the prevention of ZIKA, GBV and the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans updated at 3 levels: National, Local and Community.
