Haiti has a total population of 11 million, remaining extremely vulnerable to natural hazards. Approximately 96% percent of the population is at the risk of at least two hazards and many are still recovering from the Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and the devastating Earthquake in 2010. In 2018, the acute needs include displacement, food insecurity, risk of natural hazards and protection of the most vulnerable. These challenges are exacerbated by structural deficiencies and capacity gaps. An estimated 2.8 million people will need humanitarian assistance in 2018. In addition it is estimated that 300,000 Haitians will most likely be affected by a cyclone and flooding in 2018 of which 75,000 may be women of reproductive age, 35 percent may need family planning services and over 9,000pregnant women may require assistance. UNFPA in Haiti works closely with government ministries, UN agencies and other partners to ensure that the needs of women, girls and young people are addressed throughout humanitarian preparedness and response.
