Where we are
Headquartered at the United Nations in New York, UN Women promotes women’s empowerment, rights and gender equality globally, as well as within and among individual countries through a network of sub-regional, country and liaison offices.
The African continent has demonstrated commitment to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women. Learn more
The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean have made significant commitments to women’s rights. Learn more
Since independence, Arab and North African countries have struggled with multiple challenges. These have slowed political, social, and economic development, although there has been progress in education and health. Learn more
The Asia and the Pacific region contains some of the world’s most powerful economies—and two-thirds of its poorest people. Rich in political, cultural and other forms of diversity, it faces common challenges from stark socioeconomic disparities, including those linked to gender. Learn more
On one end of this diverse region, the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe aspire to accession to the European Union. Membership criteria, including on women’s rights and gender equality, provide a framework for UN Women’s work. Learn more
UN Women has several liaison offices that afford the organization the ability to engage systematically with key regional entities and UN Member States in policy dialogue, advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment, and focused resource mobilization efforts. Learn more
