  5. Factors shaping the HIV-competence of two primary schools in rural Zimbabwe

    We present multi-method case studies of two Zimbabwean primary schools – one rural and one small-town. The rural school scored higher than the small-town school on measures of child well-being and school attendance by HIV-affected children. The small-town school had superior facilities, more teachers with higher morale, more specialist HIV/AIDS activities, and an explicit religious ethos. The relatively impoverished rural school was located in a more cohesive community with a more critically conscious, dynamic and networking headmaster. …

  6. HIV/AIDS and STIs in-service framework and modules

    This framework sets a standard for training providers and in-service coordinators to help plan, deliver and evaluate training in HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, peer education and life skills. The training pathways aim to guide teachers to the appropriate training course for their experience and previous professional development. The purpose of the framework is to: 1.     The aim of this report was to identify teachers' views on knowledge, skills and curriculum content needs; attitudes; self-efficacy; and beliefs regarding teaching reproductive health and drug education in their junior high schools, in order to identify whether such programs should be implemented.   9. STI/HIV: sexually transmitted infections: briefing kit for teachers

    This briefing kit is for teachers. It was designed to inform teachers about STIs and their consequences for the health of young people. It aims to increase the capacity of teachers to provide accurate and appropriate information on STI. The kit consists of 4 sections. Section 1: Understanding Sexually Transmitted Infections. Section 2: STI Education. Section 3: Understanding Young People's Behaviour and Section 4: Teaching STI Prevention. The briefing kit has an annex consisting of a comprehensive list of resources for STI education.
