From 29 July to 9 August 2019, slam poets from Creative Cities of Edinburgh (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), Iowa City (United States of America), Heidelberg (Germany), Melbourne (Australia), Nottingham (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), Quebec City (Canada), Tartu (Estonia) and Utrecht (Netherlands) are competing in the first ever Slam-O-Vision.
Organized by Saint-Étienne, a UNESCO Creative City of Design in France, from 21 March to 22 April 2019, the 11th International Design Biennial featured China as the red thread of this edition. Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Wuhan, the four UNESCO Creative Cities of Design from China, were the guests of honour of the event. 115 delegates from 14 Chinese cities participated in the Biennale, and highlighted the common grounds between China and the international design stage.
From 16 to 19 July 2019, the Turkish Creative City of Kütahya is organizing “The Cradle of Foundation: Domaniç Exhibition” in İzmir. The main objective of this social project is to contribute to the economic and social development of Domaniç Province, strengthen the cooperation between stakeholders and artists.
Carrara Creative City Award aims to give a concrete contribution to building a universal language by linking culture and education in order to foster a culture of peace through the arts. It offers young sculptors the opportunity to live a period of study and an authentic experience during which they can express their own creativity in an international competition aimed at spreading UNESCO values and principles.
The Brazilian Creative City of Florianópolis mobilized its citizens to celebrate World Sustainable Day throughout the week of 18 to 21 June 2019. The event was attended by more than 2000 people and involved different stakeholders, who joined forces to raise awareness on culture and sustainable gastronomy under the aegis of the educational institutions that are part of the management group of Florianópolis’ membership to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Bilbao, a UNESCO Creative City of Design in Spain, is home to BIAAF, a leader platform for emerging international fashion talents. In partnership with some 700 international schools, its biennial contest has reached over 6,000 designers in 90 countries. BIAAF is part of the United Nations SDGs support and development platform. 
18 June now marks World Sustainable Gastronomy Day, which acknowledges gastronomy as a cultural expression linked to the natural and cultural diversity of the world. This gives countries and cities around the world an opportunity to celebrate gastronomy as a key lever for sustainable development through agricultural development, food security, nutrition, responsible food production and conservation of biodiversity.
From 10 to 15 June 2019, in Fabriano, Italy, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network XIII Annual Conference gathered 50 mayors among 480 participates from some 145 cities worldwide. Committed to achieving the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, through culture-oriented policies, the mayors exchanged on the theme of “The Ideal City”, and shared examples of how their cities are addressing community needs by building on culture and creativity to develop innovative and inclusive urban strategies.
From 31 May to 3 June, the Creative City of Film of Busan (Republic of Korea) will be organizing the third edition of its Intercity Film Festival & Film Production Residency Project, around the theme “Our City – Faces of the Cities We Live in”. The aim of the event is to strengthen and expand cooperation between UNESCO Creative Cities of Film, reason why a Film Production Residency Project is twinned with the event.
A student research team from the University of Missouri Kansas City’s (UMKC) Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design won an award for their poster research and presentation of Comparative Urbanism - a study of the UNESCO Creative Cities. The research was presented as a poster session at the 2019 National Conference of the American Planning Association in San Francisco, California. 6,400 planners attended the annual conference from more the 30 countries.
