This toolkit was developed by the International Youth Foundation in order to provide resources for program managers, educators, youth leaders and advocates to incorporate Reproductive Health into programs targeting youth. The toolkit includes a framework, curricula and practical strategies for integrating reproductive health into youth development programming.
This report presents the findings of the 2010 Georgia Reproductive Health Survey (GERHS10). The GERHS10 is the third nationally representative survey to collect comprehensive information on reproductive health status and utilization of reproductive health and maternal and child health care services in the country. A major purpose of these surveys in Georgia was to produce national and sub-national estimates of factors related to pregnancy and fertility, such as sexual activity and contraceptive use; use of abortion and other medical services; maternal and infant health, and women’s health.
Much research attention has been devoted to understanding the relationship between education and riskier sex-related behaviors and HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. While in the early 1990s researchers found that increases in education were associated with a higher incidence of HIV/AIDS, this relationship appears to have reversed and better educated people, especially women, appear less likely to engage in riskier sex-related behaviors and have a lower incidence rate of HIV/AIDS. …
Context: An entertainment-education radio soap opera, Apwe Plezi, was broadcast from February 1996 to September 1998 in St. Lucia. The program promoted family planning, HIV prevention and other social development themes. Methods: The program's effects were assessed through analyses of data from nationally representative pretest and posttest surveys, focus-group discussions and other qualitative and quantitative sources. Results: Among 1,238 respondents to the posttest survey, 35% had listened to Apwe Plezi, including 12% who listened at least once per week. …
Gender and sexuality have long been recognised as key factors affecting the dynamics of the HIV epidemic. Issues vary across communities and countries, but power imbalances, harmful social norms, violence and marginalisation affect women, men, girls, boys and transgender people across the world, limiting their ability to prevent HIV infection. There are a growing number of HIV and broader health initiatives that not only highlight gender issues, but also aim to change harmful norms and practices. These are called "gender-transformative" approaches. …
In KwaZulu/Natal, South Africa, where HIV prevalence is among the world's highest, a longitudinal qualitative study of partnership dynamics and HIV preventive behaviors was conducted. 47 young adults aged 18-24 participated in in-depth interviews, and 29 were re-interviewed 2 years later. Five analytical domains emerged: primary partnerships, love and romance; secondary partnerships; pregnancy/parenthood; condom use/prevention; and contextual influences, including schooling and future aspirations. …

This study tests the hypothesis suggested by many smaller studies that young people prefer to use private providers to access contraceptive methods. It examines the patterns in young women's levels of sexual activity, use of modern methods of contraception, and sources of modern contraception by age group and union status, using Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data. In addition, while controlling for other important explanatory variables, the study seeks to answer the question of whether young women are more likely to choose private sector providers than older women. …
This study was undertaken as part of a reproductive health project implemented by the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and the Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA), sought to improve social norms that leave young women vulnerable to health risks related to early marriage and childbearing and limited access to reproductive health services. It was found that communication-based support to mothersÆ groups and newly formed youth communication groups improved reproductive health knowledge and behavior among young married women in Nepal.
