    in 1986 the IRA murdered Kenneth Robinson, 30. Died 8 hrs after bomb exploded at Waterside home, Londonderry. Attached to UDR father’s car but fell off. IRA claimed they got concerned & phoned Samaritans. RUC got call 7 min before explosion & 2nd 20 min after

    in 1981 the IRA murdered Alan Clarke, 20. Full time UDR shot walking along Hall St, Maghera, from a passing car. Close friends with RUCR John Proctor who was shot in a hospital car park hours after carrying Clarke’s coffin 2 days later

    in 1978 the IRA murdered Howard Donaghy, 24. Post office engineer working on house he was having built near Carrickmore, Tyrone. Due to marry the following June. 3 IRA ran up & shot him x8 or x9. His mother, a nurse, was phoned & the off duty RUCR died in her arms

    in 1972 the IRA murdered William McIntyre, 23. Married father of 1. A civilian drove his mini into the crater but was only slightly hurt. McIntyre died 11th September. He’d just returned from leave spent with his wife & 16 month old son in Scotland

    in 1972 the IRA murdered Duncan McPhee, 21. Left crater 30 ft across & 25 ft deep. At the time 400-500lb bomb thought to be biggest device of its type used in NI. Inquest told none died instantly but had injuries consistent with being violently thrown from vehicle

    in 1972 the IRA murdered Douglas Richmond, 21. 1 of 3 soldiers murdered when mine went off under their Saracen Sanaghanroe, near Dungannon. 5 others injured, 3 seriously. Private Richmond’s parents were both deaf & news of his death was conveyed via sign language

    in 1988 the IRA Colin Abernethy, 29. Married father of 1. NIE employee & treasurer of the Ulster Clubs. Shot on Lisburn - Belfast train by 2 unmasked murderers disguised as postmen. Mr Abernethy’s wife was pregnant with the couple’s 2nd child

    in 1987 the IRA murdered Harry Sloan, 38. Shot near N Belfast home going to work. IRA said he was UDR. He wasn’t. Retaliation for UFF murder of Catholic Patrick Hamill. Brother-in-law “Harry wasn’t interested in politics. He spent the 12th fishing in the Republic”

    in 1971 the IRA murdered David Stewardson, 29. Married bomb disposal officer. Trying to defuse bomb outside Castlerobin Orange Hall, Lisburn. 1st bomb squad officer murdered during Troubles. In total 20 died in NI & 3 in England. Members won 300 gallantry awards

    in 1989 the IRA murdered Heidi Hazell, 26. German wife of British soldier. Driving British registered car near Army base Dortmund, Germany when hit by gunfire. IRA said thought she was Army but didn’t apologise warning civilians to “keep clear of British military”

    in 1984 the IRA murdered Malcolm Cullen, 23. Married father of 2. Purchasing manager shot x3 in back opening gates of premises. Murderers then shot Robert Bennett before running back to van, firing again at Cullen as they did so. No security force connections

    in 1984 the IRA murdered Robert Bennett, 45. Married father of 3. Timber yard worker shot, Dungannon. Off duty UDR returning from lunch with wife & children & saying goodbye when shooting started. Wife dived on floor of car while 3 yr old screamed on back seat

    in 1981 the IRA murdered Stuart Montgomery, 18. 1 of the youngest RUC officers murdered. His father told of his pride in son joining police, following in his footsteps & those of his grandfather & great uncle in Cork. Explosion left crater 50 ft deep & 50 ft wide

    in 1981 the IRA murdered Mark Evans, 20. 1 of 2 RUC murdered when landmine exploded under their patrol car near Pomeroy. They were in the 2nd of 2 car patrol investigating forest fire. Both died instantly. Constable Evans was on his 1st day of duty in Pomeroy

    in 1974 the IRA murdered Mary Bingham, 58. Married with children. Passenger in a car driven by her daughter hit when IRA fired on soldiers in Dungannon. Murderers fired 25+ shots. The Army did not return fire in the built up area. Family owned farm near Cookstown
