This brief focuses on the rights of children (minors under the age of 18 years) in high-income countries to access health services related to HIV prevention – in particular sexual and reproductive health services, and harm reduction services and drug treatment services. It examines children’s right to access information, the age at which children can consent to sexual and reproductive health services and drug treatment services, the right to privacy of children’s health-related information, and the duty of confidentiality owed by health and social welfare providers to children in relation to health information. The brief also examines the right of children to access HIV treatment and participate in clinical trials.
