Expert Facility Workshop 2013
Two years after their first meeting in Rabat (March 2011), the specialists of the Expert Facility project gathered in Paris to share and exchange their experiences of the project over the past two years.
Through a series of plenary and working-group sessions, the experts critically assessed the implementation of the project and of the technical assistance missions with a view of defining the future of the project and of the Pool of experts, as well as finalising a methodological guide on technical assistance. The experts shared their visions and experiences from both their personal work and from the technical assistance missions in order to set out a clear road map that offers better responses to the realities of work in the field.
The experts notably discussed:
- strengths and weaknesses of the current methodology
- how to best prepare experts for local needs and contexts
- generating sustainable cooperation amongst stakeholders
- potential tools and frameworks for technical assistance
Following this meeting, the experts decided to continue the work that was started during the workshop over the coming months in different groups focusing on revising the methodological guide, fundraising, new challenges for the 2005 Convention, mentoring practices and awareness-raising tools. The result of this broad consultation and reflection will be consolidated in the autumn and will contribute to the collective work on the implementation of the 2005 Convention in developing countries.

The Expert Facility project was extended until 30 June 2015 in order to enable a number of follow-up activities, including this workshop. The European Union's continued financial support to the project demonstrates its commitment to UNESCO's work in building the capacities of developing countries that are Parties to UNESCO's 2005 Convention with a view of promoting culture as a key factor of sustainable development.
