UNESCO opens the exhibition “Stories and places – Movies and World Heritage Sites in Asia” in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, 3-10 December 2011.

Luang Prabang’s unique architecture - blending elegantly traditional Lao structures and European colonial buildings - as well as its vibrant cultural traditions all contributed to its nomination as a World Heritage site in 1995. This richness and that of many other World Heritage sites have nurtured directors and artists’ creativity all over the world.

To celebrate these exchanges, UNESCO is pleased to collaborate with the 2nd Luang Prabang Film Festival and propose a special exhibition on World Heritage sites and movies. The exhibition will be set up at the Project Space Luang Prabang from 3 to 10 December 2011. It will showcase how World Heritage sites have inspired a broad range of film makers, from Hollywood to independent directors and many more. A section will also be dedicated to the role films and audio-visual play in the promotion and safeguarding of these unique sites.
