Archives
The Archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim collect, preserve, and provide access to archival materials connected mostly with the history of Auschwitz Concentration Camp, and to a lesser extent with other concentration camps as well.
The collection includes original German camp records, copies of documents obtained from other institutions in Poland and abroad, source material of postwar provenance (memoirs, accounts by former prisoners, material from the trials of Nazi war criminals, etc.), photographs, microfilms, negatives, documentary films, scholarly studies, reviews, lectures, exhibition scenarios, film scripts, and search results.
The Office for Information on Former Prisoners
The Office for Information on Former Prisoners, part of the Archives, uses the original records to issue certificates to former prisoners, attesting to the fact that they were in Auschwitz. Please note that information about prisoners is issued only to the former prisoners themselves, close relatives, or institutions in Poland and abroad with the required authorization.

Archive hours
The Archives of the State Museum in Auschwitz are open from Monday to Friday, with the exception of holidays and legal holidays, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Former prisoners family members and visitors who are planning to visit the Bureau for Former Prisoners or the Archives before the booked tour ought to ask a dispatcher for an identification card enabling entry to the Museum grounds. Guests that are planning to visit only Bureau for Former Prisoners or Archives are asked to inform about it before visiting mentioned Departments.
