The Great Silk Road and Kyrgyzstan

25 October 2019

On 26-28 September master classes on the production of Kyrgyz felt carpets - Shyrdaks and Ala-kiyiz were held in Bishkek as part of a joint project of the European Union and UNESCO Almaty.

The main goal of the event was to raise awareness among a wide audience, especially youth and children, about the rich culture and variety of traditional handicraft knowledge and skills of the Kyrgyz people associated with the culture of felt carpet production.

To further popularize the traditions of felt carpets, books for children and teenagers were published, which were distributed among them during these three days.

The book tells about this history of the Silk Road in Kyrgzystan.
