Official Global Launch Event of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages

This official launch event is co-organized by UNESCO, UNDESA, and the members of Steering Committee for the organization of the International Year, as well as with the participation of other relevant stakeholders.

To be held under the theme “Indigenous languages matter for sustainable development, peace building and reconciliation”, this official launch event will gather high-level governmental officials, indigenous peoples, civil society, academia, media, information and memory organizations, United Nations agencies, public language harmonization and documentation institutions and private sector bodies.

The official launch event aims at providing a global forum for a constructive debate in which high-level speakers and prominent experts will address new paradigms for safeguarding, promoting and providing access to knowledge and information for the indigenous languages’ users.

UNESCO, in its capacity of the leading UN agency of the International Year of Indigenous Languages, will organize the Official Global Launch event of the 2019 International Year on Indigenous Languages that will take place from 15.00 p.m. to 18.30 p.m. and cultural programme from 18.40 to 19.30 p.m. on Monday, 28 January 2019 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France (Room II).

Lancement mondial officiel de l'Année internationale des langues autochtones 2019

Cette manifestation officielle de lancement est organisée conjointement par l'UNESCO, l'UNDESA et les membres du Comité directeur pour l'organisation de l'Année internationale, avec la participation d'autres parties prenantes concernées.

Sous le thème « Les langues autochtones sont importantes pour le développement durable, la consolidation de la paix et la réconciliation », cet événement réunira des représentants gouvernementaux de haut niveau, des peuples autochtones, des membres de la société civile, des universités, des médias, des organisations de l'information et de la mémoire, des agences des Nations Unies, des institutions publiques d’harmonisation et de documentation linguistiques et du secteur privé.

L’objectif principal de l’événement de lancement officiel est de fournir un forum mondial pour un débat constructif au cours duquel des orateurs de haut niveau abordent de nouveaux paradigmes pour la sauvegarde, la promotion et l’accès aux connaissances et à l’information des utilisateurs des langues autochtones.

L’UNESCO, en sa qualité de principale agence des Nations Unies pour l’Année internationale des langues autochtones, organisera l’événement de lancement mondial officiel de l’Année internationale des langues autochtones 2019, qui se déroulera de 15h00 à 18h30 suivi d’un programme culturel de 18h40 à 19h30, le lundi 28 janvier 2019 au siège de l'UNESCO à Paris, France (salle II).
