Group of experts on Cultural Heritage meet at European Commission
The Deputy-Director of the World Heritage Centre, Jyoti Hosagrahar, represented UNESCO at the First meeting of the European Commission Expert Group on Cultural Heritage in Brussels. The event was organized by the European Commission and took place on 15-16 October 2019.
The European Commission Expert Group on cultural heritage was set up with the aim of continuing the spirit of cooperation and policy dialogue that was achieved in the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage. Representatives from across Europe attended the informal commission expert group. The aim of the Expert Group was to provide the Commission with advice and expertise, as well as to serve as a platform for consultation and exchange of information on cultural heritage policies to support the implementation of the European Framework for Action on Cultural Heritage, and to bring about an exchange of experience and good practice related to the management of cultural heritage.
Ms Hosagrahar presented UNESCO’s work in the field of cultural heritage, from the major standard setting instruments to initiatives for recovery and reconstruction of heritage, policies to counter the impacts of climate change natural disasters, as well as the ongoing initiative on the Thematic Indicators for 2030 Agenda. She also highlighted the recent European Young Heritage Professionals Forum, which was held in May in Croatia, and the ongoing project in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage as well as other initiatives regarding the EU-UNESCO partnership included in the European Framework for Action.
