UNESCO IITE at the International Media Forum in Moscow

UNESCO IITE took part in the International Media Forum “Pedagogical Education in Digital Society: Challenges, Problems, Perspectives”, which was held on 6–7 June 2019 in Moscow. The Forum, organized by Moscow State Pedagogical University (MSPU) in cooperation with the Eurasian Association of Pedagogical Universities and the Association for the Development of Pedagogical Universities and Institutes, was aimed to join the effort of the professional scientific and pedagogical community of Russia and CIS countries in order to define the modern model of teacher education in digital society.

Mr. Tao Zhan, UNESCO IITE Director, welcomed the participants of the Forum and emphasized the significant role of information and communication technologies in teacher education and in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 aimed to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education. The participants of the Forum were also greeted by Mr. Alexey Lubkov, Rector of MSPU; Ms. Lyubov Dukhanina, Deputy of the State Duma, Chair of the All-Russian NGO “Znanie”, and by heads of MSPU divisions.

Ms. Tatyana Murovana, UNESCO IITE programme specialist, delivered the presentation “UNESCO activities for promoting media and information literacy in the context of new technologies” within the round table “Media and information education in pedagogical universities: challenges and prospects”. In her presentation, Ms. Murovana noted the positive experience of the joint activities of UNESCO IITE and MSPU Department for Media Education on developing an e-resource for teachers to master new competencies of media literacy.

During the event, the participants discussed the challenges associated with the role of teacher education in the context of digital transformation, including the functions of media and information education in building competencies among citizens in a digital society, the philosophy and methodology of digital pedagogy in the view of cognition and creativity, the development of language, literature and culture from the Golden Age to the digital age, and other relevant topics.

The work of the International Media Forum was organized in the format of scientific and practical conferences, round tables, master classes and presentations of innovative educational products, as well as continuing education programs on relevant issues.
