From 18 to 27 October 2019, a new edition of the Open Design Afrika will be held in Cape Town (South Africa), a UNESCO Creative City of Design. This festival focuses on innovation, education and community as the building blocks of a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous society. At ODA Festival we are invited to experience why creativity is the unifying thread that links the building blocks and solutions that can greatly contribute to the wellbeing and skills development of the Afrikan people and the design of thriving circular economies.
On 25 and 26 February, Cape Town, UNESCO Creative City of Design in South Africa, held the #cocreateDESIGN Festival, a public design festival inspired by the power of design to co-create a more resilient future for all. The theme, “Inspiring Resilience”, focused on resilient communities and citizen-led solutions for creating thriving cities.
Between October 2018 and March 2019, the Open Streets Days, which entail the temporary closure of a major street in Cape Town, will encourage residents of the South African city to use and take ownership of streets as public spaces. This will happen on the last Sunday of each month – with the exception of December – to create a new mindset around urban mobility, to create shared spaces that embody respect and help to bridge the social and spatial divides in the city.
