The Arctic World Heritage Conference on Managing complexity – the way forward for World Heritage in the Arctic Region will take place in Veröld – House of Vigdís, at the University of Iceland, in Reykjavík (Iceland), on 24-25 October 2019, in association with the UNESCO.

The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners to explore the potential of World Heritage in the Arctic region. Academic knowledge will meet practical experience to discuss challenges specific to the management of Arctic World Heritage sites. The conference will draw together existing work that has been conducted over the last 15 years and will identify the next steps needed. The objective is to explore and demonstrate the potential of World Heritage in the Arctic region as a lever to sustainable development and address challenges of the Arctic region.

Three thematic sessions will shed light on reducing conservation challenges, transnational properties, and recommendations for a holistic management of World Heritage.
