The course on Education for Sustainable Development is addressed to staff of the education system of six Central American countries. UNESCO in collaboration with the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (Mexico) is organizing the second face-to-face phase of this course to share experiences and practices among the countries of the region and rethink the Education for Sustainable Development for the future.

UNESCO, in collaboration with the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí in Mexico, is coordinating a three-month bimodal course on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). It is part of the sustainable development objectives and Agenda 2030 and the regional project "Capacity Development in Education for Sustainable Development", implemented by the UNESCO Office in San José with the financial support of the Swedish and Japanese governments.
The training programme offers theoretical courses and practical exercises during its two face-to-face phase as well as its virtual phase. The objective is to strengthen professional technical capacities in order to improve pedagogical mediation and pedagogical resources related to ESD teaching. The course also includes the design and implementation of a tutor-led action plan, to improve in the long term, the educational practices of professionals involved in the ESD implementation project.
The first phase of the training took place in San José, Costa Rica, from the 6th to 8th of August, with the participation of curriculum developers, teacher trainers and educators from six Central American countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama). The objective of the first phase was to introduce OSDs and ESD to strengthen the capacities of participants in this area.
During the two-month virtual phase, participants deepen and develop their capacities and skills through an active and participatory online methodology. Simultaneously with the virtual phase, participants from each country, formed as a team, develop as trainers through replicated workshops in the education systems of each country, thus multiplying the scope of the training received and helping to promote ESD in the region.
